The Oculus is a VR (virtual reality) platform that according to the Oculus website brings "high-end VR experiences to more PCs across a spectrum of configurations." Students can play games and have interactive experiences through the headset and controllers. The whole room can turn into a VR experience. The newest version of the Oculus does not need to connect to a computer allowing for a broader VR experience.

There are several educational applications for the gaming system. There are art games like Let's Create Pottery and Color Space. Students can also exercise for PE with Guided Tai Chi, several sports games, and several dance games. Guided Nature lets students see different landscapes and the animals that inhabit them and create the weather which would be beneficial in a science classroom. House Flipper incorporates math, science, and careers. Immersed Coworking and Spatial give students opportunities to collaborate and work on projects together. WOW. This is unreal. The Anne Frank house! I thought it was so cool when I could show my kids the virtual tour but to allow them to walk through it. How neat. Does it have something to connect to feet to tell when someone is walking? Maybe that could be the next upgrade! So cool. Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds absolutely amazing! Virtual Reality is definitely a way to open up opportunities for our students that we couldn't have imagined when we were in school. Touring the Anne Frank house through VR is an experience I wouldn't want to pass up!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to make my name show up on these comments... sorry! This is Kristen Taylor. :)
DeleteI am not familiar with Virtual Reality platforms. I also chose the R.A.T. model. I didn't know that the students can interact virtual with one another to create a product to share. This is a very exciting piece of technology and the uses seem vast.
